Volunteer Center Mission Statement

TO PROMOTE VOLUNTEERISM AS A MEANS OF FOSTERING INCREASED CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT IN THE COMMUNITY AND ENABLING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE NON-PROFIT AGENCIES TO ENHANCE OR MAINTAIN NEEDED HUMAN SERVICES.

The Volunteer Center acts as an advocate for volunteerism by:
Volunteer Heart-Arrow Logo EDUCATING AGENCIES in methods of working with volunteers.
Volunteer Heart-Arrow Logo  PROVIDING STAFF ORIENTATION for potential volunteers.
Volunteer Heart-Arrow Logo  INTERVIEWING and REFERRING VOLUNTEERS to over 3,500 appropriate agencies:
SCHOOLS:
- as classroom aids, on a one-to-one basis.
- math/reading tutors.
- physical education assistants.
- playground monitors.
- assisting librarians and nurses.
- assisting secretarial and clerical staff.
 
PUBLIC LIBRARIES:
- mend and shelve books.
- assist in reference department.
- assist in updating historical data.
- mend and shelve books.- assist in reference department.- assist in updating historical data.
 
CONVALESCENT HOMES:
- help with recreational programs.
- read to patients.
- assist in letter writing.
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY:
- work as drivers.
- assist with clerical work.
CAPK FOOD BANK AND GOLDEN EMPIRE GLEANERS:
- sort and distribute food to families/individuals/organizations on a daily basis.
- provide clerical/intake assistance.

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION:

- take blood pressures and case histories.
- assist with clerical work.

AND MANY OTHER agencies which benefit the community and could not function at full potential without volunteer assistance.
