About Us
Vision Statement
One day every person will discover their power to make a difference, creating healthy communities in vibrant democracies around the world.
Our Mission
HandsOn Central California inspires, equips, and mobilizes people to take action that changes their communities and the world.
Our Goals
HandsOn Central California's organizational capacity for transformative change expands exponentially when the community of volunteers grows and the infrastructure grows along with it.
- Ensuring a Volunteer and Civic Centered Focus-we must focus on creating hands on experiences that encourage volunteers and civically engaged people to be the lever for change.
- Working to build the "Power of We"-believing we can do more together than alone. We will build strong partnerships with groups that will create needed action, innovation and impact in our communities, empowering people to be the center of community change.
- Driving Demonstrable Impact-in order to leverage the power of volunteerism, we must create higher accountability for impact by better measuring and communicating the resulting changes in individuals, institutions and communities. Our focus areas will be: restore schools as centers of community revitalization, conserve and preserve the earth and drive community development and poverty alleviation.
- Creating A Sustainable Nonprofit Model-Internally we are developing a business plan that will allow us to be responsive to the needs of our communities modeling the effective use of volunteers. Externally, we will build the capacity of the community to effectively utilize volunteers.
Our History
HandsOn Central California was formally named the Volunteer Center of Fresno County, Inc. The organization was founded in 1962 by a group of community leaders who saw the value of volunteering for individuals and the community alike. Incorporated as a 501 (c)3 non-profit in 1975, HandsOn Central California continues to put people at the center of change by leading the efforts in cultivating a community conscience that promotes the spirit, the value and the dignity of volunteerism.
