ACT Community Service Center Terms and Conditions
Use of the ACT Community Service Center web site indicates acceptance of the terms and conditions listed below. From time to time the terms and conditions may be revised by updating this document and posting it on the web site. If at any time, you do not agree to these terms and conditions, you must cease your use of this web site.
Qualification of Organizations:
ACT Community Service Center has developed a set of criteria which will be used to qualify organizations to participate on this web site.
1. You are solely responsible for posting/updating your agency content. Your agency/opportunities then go through an approval process. The process usually takes about 48 hours.
2. Registration is free for all non-profit organizations, municipal, county, state and/or federal agencies serving the public, public or private non-profit schools or neighborhood, civic groups or other community groups focused on community benefit/enhancement. Organizations registering as non-profit organizations must be able to provide a copy of their mission statement and/or evidence of their nonprofit status upon request. Organizations registering as for-profit organizations must provide assurance that volunteer positions are designed to enhance the quality of service to clients. ACT Community Service Center reserves the right to refuse any organization whose volunteer programs’ missions and purposes it finds contrary to the spirit of volunteerism and reserves the right to editorial control of the web site.
3. ACT Community Service Center will not accept requests for volunteers
a. From organizations that are partisan in their politics. (Partisan refers to political parties and/or individual candidates).
b. From religious organizations except for the purpose of community service such as day care, food distribution, etc. providing the service delivered is not restricted to a specific religion.
c. For volunteer positions which replace or displace paid staff or conflict with a collective bargaining agreement.
d. For positions which discriminate based on race, color, religion, creed, age, gender, national origin or ancestry, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation or status as a qualified disabled or handicapped individual. Reasonable and appropriate guidelines in the area of age and gender will be accepted based on the nature of the volunteer position.e. From individual citizens. ACT Community Service Center will attempt to direct individuals to an appropriate helping organization.
4. Registering organizations must demonstrate a commitment to the effective use of volunteers in meaningful and rewarding capacities. They must meet minimum standards for good volunteer management practices. They must agree to:
a. Post a mission statement or statement of purpose
b. Provide a safe environment in which to work
c. Contact referred volunteers within seven days and refer unplaced volunteers back to the ACT Community Service Center.
d. Provide volunteers with service descriptions, orientation, training (where necessary), supervision, evaluation and recognition to ensure effective volunteer service and satisfaction.
e. Designate one contact person at the organization who is responsible for duties listed in 4.d.

5. In order to continue to receive referrals, organizations are required to:
6. Appeal Process: Organizations who are denied an opportunity to post may appeal the decision. The appeal must be made within ten working days of the denial to the Chair of the Advisory Council of the ACT Community Service Center. At the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Advisory Council a determination on the appeal will be made. If the organization is dissatisfied with this decision, an appeal may be submitted to the Executive Director of DIAL/SELF Youth and Community Services. The determination of the Executive Director will be final.
7. Qualification of Volunteers: We do not screen or otherwise qualify volunteers who use the web site of ACT Community Service Center. It is the sole responsibility of the participating organization to screen and accept or reject any and all applicants. Participating organizations voluntarily assume all risks, and release and discharge ACT Community Service Center from any claim, liability or demand of any kind which may arise as a result of the actions or lack thereof on behalf of any prospective volunteer referred by ACT Community Service Center.
8. The inclusion of any organization or person in this data base does not constitute a representation, warranty or endorsement with respect to the competence, suitability or reliability of such organization or person by ACT Community Service Center; nor does ACT Community Service Center sponsor or endorse any third-party web site.
9. In addition to these terms and conditions, all organizations receive and must agree to the terms of use and privacy policy for 1-800-Volunteer.org.
