Volunteers Impact Community

United Way of Saginaw County's main focus is to bring as much impact to the community as possible. With the help of our very dedicated and much appreciated volunteers we are able to do just this. Here's how:

Volunteer START (Students Towards A Responsible Tomorrow) - Through United Way of Saginaw County and the H.R. Wickes Foundation area high school students are able to create their own volunteer projects, decide which non-profit organization to partner with and execute the project by volunteering of their time, talent, and treasure. The students are taught the significance of volunteerism as well as create meaningful community service opportunities.

Holiday Wish List - During the Holiday season dedicated volunteers give hundreds of hours of their time to help ensure those who need a little extra help during the holiday season get it. During this past 2006 Holiday, volunteers were able use community contributions to help approximatly 654 families and 2128 individuals have a brighter holiday.

Project Independence - Through this program, volunteers constructted and installed ten mobility ramps and forever changed the lives of the recipients and their families within our community.

Campaign Volunteers - Helped the United Way staff members and the Saginaw Community raise over $2.5 million dollars during campaign season to help our community.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program - During the tax season, well trained and highly dedicated volunteers complete tax returns for those who can not afford to have them done professionally. In our 2006 season, volunteers completed tax returns for 1,738 clients, which over $970,000 back to our community.

Funds Distribution - Volunteers from all over our community not only gave of their valuable time but also helped distribute over $1.3 million dollars to our partnering agencies to help support our community
