Description:
Communities in Schools of Durham (CIS of Durham) is looking for caring, outgoing and dedicated adults and professionals to serve as mentors at the Durham Performanc Learning Center, a nontraditional high school at Northgate Mall for youth at risk of dropping out of school. This innovative school has just 75 students, uses a combination of an online curriculum and small classes, and matches every student with a mentor and an internship or job shadowing opportunity.
The mentors meet once a week with their student on-site, ideally during lunch hour. The attention of a caring adult is one of the most important factors in helping these youth succeed.
