Volunteer Loudoun School Volunteer Award Program
In recognition of student volunteerism in Loudoun County, the Volunteer Loudoun Services Board has established scholarships for graduating seniors from each Loudoun County public and private high schools and from the home school community.
In support of the Student Volunteer Program, the scholarships recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the Loudoun County community through their volunteer efforts. Different from traditional scholarships, the Volunteer Loudoun Student Scholarships place more emphasis on a demonstrated interest in and service to the community than on academic or athletic excellence.
The Volunteer Award Program promotes interaction and volunteer assistance between Loudoun County schools and community services. Student volunteer hours are recognized and rewarded from the elementary to high school level. Students who have reported their hours collectively, volunteer an average of 23,000 hours per year. Students in public and private schools and hom-schooled students have the opportunity to receive a $500 or $1000 scholarship. Pending available funds, VL also awards as much as $4,000 to one most outstanding student each year. Since 2000, VL has awarded over $76,000 in college scholarships. $100 monthly contributions are made to charitable organizations on behalf of students who receive a Monthly Student Volunteer of the Month Award. The contribution is made to a charity of the student's choice.
It is the goal of the Volunteer Loudoun Services Board to provide opportunities and to encourage students to become active in their community through volunteer service. The scholarships have been established to acknowledge and reward that service. The Volunteer Loudoun Student Scholarships are funded each year through contributions from county businesses and civic groups. Contributors to the scholarship fund are recognized as the scholarship sponsors.
