ANNOUNCEMENTS AND NEWS

NEW: Events Added to Our Website

Please see our new Events in addition to the announcements listed below to find the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! A variety of new events have been added in many areas of volunteerism. 08/19/08

Hurricane Season: Are You Prepared to Help?

With Hurricane Season 2008 underway, the Brunswick County Volunteer Center encourages you to register with us as a volunteer to be ready to help in the event of a natural disaster. There are numerous ways to assist your community in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm landing. The first thing everyone can do, however, is to prepare yourself and your family before the storm arrives. Beyond that, though, affiliated organizations (like the Red Cross) will be looking for extra help. Please consider joining us today.

NEW: Volunteers in Management (VIM) Program

The VIM Program is designed to assist local government and nonprofit organizations with projects they may not otherwise have the resources to provide by connecting them to volunteers with professional skills. These expert volunteers may be retired or have extra time in their schedules and will work with the organizations where their skills are needed, on a schedule they choose. Professionals of all kinds are encouraged to register with the Volunteer Center, including all medical, legal, and business fields. No skill will be overlooked. Please call us at (910) 253-2574 for more information.

Brunswick County Volunteer Center Project: "Computers for Kids"

The "Computers for Kids" project is an ongoing effort to provide computers for children and teens in need within the Brunswick County school system. These computers have been generously donated by local companies and departments and have been fully refurbished before being given to students to provide them with the tools they need to not only stay in school, but excel in their studies. Since the program's conception only a few years ago, over 200 computers have found homes with students all over the county. If you have a computer at home you no longer use, you may be able to donate it to Computers for Kids. If you are knowledgable in the areas of computer maintenance and repair, and would like to help refurbish these donated computers, please give us a call at (910) 253-2574.
