Volunteer Recognition Breakfast

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the Dan River Center for Voluntarism held its third annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast on April 22, 2009.  This event was held at the Stratford Conference Center and was opened with an official proclamation from both Mayor Sherman Saunders (city of Danville) & Coy Harville (Chairman of Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors). 

Randy Johnson, executive director of God's Pit Crew was the keynote speaker who encouraged and inspired volunteers and perspective volunteers alike. Local volunteers were nominated and selected for the Community Service Awards and several community volunteers were presented the Presidential Service Award.

     Community Service Award  winners:

           Caring Company Award - WAKG-WBTM, Piedmont Broadcasting Corporation

           Youth Award - ACTEENS, West Main Baptist Church

           Community Spirit Award - Dr. Regina Curtis, Cross Roads Christian Counseling

           Building Bridges Across Diversity Award - Debbie Upshaw

  Presidential Service Award winners:

           Bennie Bridges, Janice Brewer, Renee Stone, Christine Brooks,Demetrius Monroe, Stephaney Howson, Jim Hamilton, Marjorie Hamilton, Sandy Wingate, Constance Henderson and James Hodge.
