Academic Mentoring
Academic Mentoring, formerly known as America Reads*America Counts, has been in the Riley County community for 14 years. Last year, the program’s name changed to Academic Mentoring to better express the true intention and nature of the service provided. K-State students are placed in local schools and organizations to promote and support family literacy efforts and youth-related programming throughout our community. Academic Mentors also encourage volunteering among youth and their families by developing and implementing service projects planned for and with youth to be implemented on Family Volunteer Day (November) and Global Youth Service Day (April).

Good Neighbors Program
This university-city initiative was formed to foster and build cooperation between students and permanent residents in Manhattan. Manhattan is a great place to live, work, play and attend school but with growth and opportunities comes challenges such as keeping neighborhoods clean, safe and welcoming for everyone. Neighborhood socials, events and neighborhood dialogues encourage positive communication and neighborhood relationships throughout the academic year.
Seasons of Service
The Seasons of Service is a portfolio of national day of service opportunities for people to volunteer throughout the year. Each day of service is sponsored by national organizations and focuses on a theme and specific groups. Partnering and collaborating with Manhattan's community organizations, the Volunteer Center celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Initiatives (January), Global Youth Service Day (April), National Volunteer Week (April), Make a Difference Day (October) and Family Volunteer Day (November).

Community Service Week (Make a Difference Day)
Occurring in late October, K-State's Community Service Week is designed to offer fall semester volunteer and service opportunities to K-State students. The K-State Volunteer Center partners with local nonprofits and community organizations to provide opportunities for service throughout a week. Community Service Week originally began 9 years ago involving only freshman students enrolled in a University Experience class. With the creation of the Volunteer Center, opportunities have been expanded to others on campus and in the community. Make A Difference Day kicks off the week with more than 300 volunteers participating in this annual event.
Volunteer Management Support and Training
The Volunteer Management Series supports community organizations, businesses and government agencies as they manage their current (or proposed) volunteer programs. Workshops and trainings are offered during the year and can be an effective method of sharing best practices with other volunteer administrators on how to mobilize campus and community volunteers to address community needs.
