The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable credit that returns Federal and State government dollars to working families and individuals through a credit on their taxes as a refund.    To find out if you are eligible for the credit .....>>>more>>>

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program - VITA offers free tax help to low to moderate income persons.  Volunteers help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country.  Vita sites throughout Long Island are located at community centers, libraries, schools and other convenient locations.

Computer SpecialistTraining Specialist InstructorGreeter**    Recruitment/Publicity Specialist**              

Interpreter** [non-English languages including American Sign Language]    Equipment Procurement Coordinator**

Training and Certification

All volunteer tax return preparers must be certified to prepare taxes and perform quality reviews of returns. For all positions which require certification, volunteers must pass the Basic test with a minimum score of 80%.  The test can be taken twiceVolunteers have an option to proceed to additional courses and certifications including Intermediate and Advanced.  There are various ways to learn & become certified:

  1. Link & Learn Taxes Online e-Learning course is available >>>                                          [ IMPORTANT: Be sure to print the CERTIFICATION FORM that appears after you have passed each complete module. Certifcation Form(s) must be given to the VITA site Coordinator Manager.]
  2. Self-Study Guide and workbook are available.  
  3. AARP offers training classes for persons of all ages.
  4. RSVP offers training classes for persons 55 years ______________________________________________________________________________________________
