The Volunteer Center of United Way Monterey County

CalWORKs
In conjunction with the Monterey County Department of Social and Employment Services we work to place welfare recipients in volunteer opportunities in order for them to gain work experience and develop skills to assist them in attaining employment.

Caminos
This program places expelled students in meaningful volunteer opportunities in order to complete required community service hours for re-admittance into school.  Our philosophy is that any youth can be transformed through service activities and positive interactions with caring adults in the community.  Students participate in weekly “Reflections” sessions which provide skill-building exercises and allow for personal reflection on their experience.

Literacy Campaign Volunteer Recruitment
In partnership with the Community Foundation of Monterey County, we recruit volunteer literacy tutors for various literacy service providers throughout the county.  For more information on the Literacy Campaign, please visit www.literacycampaignmc.org.

Community Service Awards
For more than 30 years, the Volunteer Center has hosted an annual volunteer recognition celebration to recognize and honor the efforts of our outstanding community volunteers.
