Explorer Post 1986 has been in existence since 1974, and is open to all Montgomery County youth who have reached the eighth grade and are between 14-20 years of age.Explorer Post 1986 is a worksite-based program, administered by the Police Department, and is designed for youth who have an interest in law enforcement as a career. It is also intended for youth who want to do something different and for youth who just want to have fun. The program provides fun-filled, hands-on training in:
1. Arrest and Search Techniques
2. Bomb Threat Response
3. Burglary In Progress
4. Crime Scene Search
5. Domestic Crisis Intervention
6. Emergency Field First Aid
7. Hostage Negotiation
8. Crash Investigation
9. Traffic Stops
10. White Collar Crime
The Post meets at the Public Safety Training Academy (9710 Great Seneca Highway, Rockville, Md. 20850), every Wednesday, from 6:00 pm-8:30 pm. Almost every week-end you will find members of the Post engaged in projects that involve making Montgomery County a better place to live. Many of the details qualify for Student Service Learning Hours; however, before the hours can be credited, you must be a member of the Post.
