Volunteer
Center Programs & Services
The mission of the
Montgomery
County
Volunteer
Center is to mobilize people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems. Our Online Searchable Database of Volunteer Opportunities enables nonprofit and public organizations to post up to date requests for volunteers. Individuals, including professionals, students, retirees and more; along with groups such as faith groups, businesses, neighborhood associations and scout troops - can search the database to find one-time, short-term, or ongoing volunteer opportunities with more than 700 public and private non-profit agencies. Volunteers can access the information on our website, or make an appointment for a phone or in-person meeting with a Volunteer Advisor.
Our A-Team is made up of volunteer Advisors & Ambassadors. Advisors meet with individuals to help them search our online database. Ambassadors represent the
Volunteer
Center by staffing tables at community events and presenting information to groups. The
Montgomery Volunteer e-Newsletter is an email with more than 5,000 recipients that includes information on volunteering and highlighting specific opportunities and organizations each month. The RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) has over 800 people aged 55 and over working in the community in jobs ranging from knitting to creating Web pages. The Pro-Bono Consultant Program places seasoned professionals in time-limited projects. The Language Bank is an online database of translators and interpreters who are on-call to county government and nonprofit agencies registered with the
Volunteer
Center. Donations Hotlink provides an easy way for donations of goods and services to be made available to agencies. A weekly email listing donations is sent to all registered agencies, and agencies contact donors directly to arrange pickup of items. Student Service Learning; the Volunteer Center works in partnership with our public schools to keep a database of approved volunteer opportunities to provide meaningful experiences for young people, and to make information available to students. We assist Interfaith Works in their coordination of the Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County, a coalition of faith-based organizations, public and private groups and businesses that coordinate the distribution of holiday baskets for needy people for Thanksgiving and the December holidays. Seasons of Service are special events we manage throughout the year including Community Service Day, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, and Earth Day, in which the entire community can work together on volunteer projects. As part of the County’s Emergency Operations Group, the
Volunteer
Center is active in ongoing preparation and response to emergencies in the county. We also manage the Medical Reserve Corps and Emergency Action Team. We manage annual awards programs; the Marriott Spirit to Serve Awards for volunteer recognition and the
Montgomery
County
Neal Potter Path of Achievement Awards celebrating a lifetime of achievement. We provide training and technical assistance on volunteer management to nonprofit agencies.
