 Help in a Disaster

 Register to Volunteer Now!

In times of disaster we all experience a sense of urgency and want to do something to help. However, during disasters large numbers of volunteers who offer their help can unintentionally tax already overburdened emergency systems and communications, and distract emergency workers from assisting those most in need.

The best way you can help in disaster is to Register Now!!  Don't wait for disaster to strike to register. By registering now your offer of support can be put to use quickly and effectively when most needed.

You can register as a disaster response volunteer by either contacting local community organizations active in disaster such as the Red Cross, the Rappahannock-Rapidan Medical Reserve Corps, Civil Air Patrol, and Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squads or logging onto www.HelpInDisaster.org

By registering you can complete a volunteer profile and let us know all about your skills and expereince and what you are willing to do to help following a disaster.

For more information on volunteering in disaster, contact the Piedmont Volunteer Center at 540-825-0317 or volunteer@piedmontunitedway.org.
