Rappahannock Region Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster

(RR VOAD)

RR VOAD is a collaboration of disaster response organizations, human service agencies, faith based organizations, civic clubs, and others that commit their resources to helping the community recover from the affects of a disaster.

RR VOAD was created in 2001 by the Rapppahannock United Way, the American Red Cross, Rappahannock Chapter, and the Salvation Army.  It was formed with the knowledge that voluntary organizations have many resources with which to help the community, but these groups have to be organized to be used effectively.

RR VOAD prepares now for disasters that may happen in the future.  A strong network of volunteers helps our community recover more quickly and effectively from the affects of a disaster.  Residents are able to return to a somewhat normal state of life more quickly if their disaster related needs are met.

RR VOAD volunteers have an important role in this!

RR VOAD is led by an Executive Committee, which is made up of representatives from member organizations. RR VOAD members meet quarterly to keep up with RR VOAD activities and learn information pertinent to disasters.

RR VOAD offers a wide variety of trainings to all members in an effort to familiarize our community at large with disasters, what volunteers might be called to do, the responsibilities of other disaster response organizations, etc.

RR VOAD meetings are a great way to meet and network with other faith-based organizations, community agencies, schools and businesses.  RR VOAD supports community collaboration.

New members are always welcome to join RR VOAD.

Fredericksburg Area Volunteer Administrator’s Roundtable

(FAVAR)

FAVAR was primarily established to provide an additional arena for local non-profit administrators to network.

As the field of volunteer administration continues to grow, we must be responsive to the increased need for professional development, networking among members, and the promotion of volunteerism in the Greater Fredericksburg Area.

Area volunteer administrators gather bi-monthly to meet one another, receive a presentation on a related topic and discuss ideas for recruiting, recognizing and maintaining volunteers.

Through the FAVAR meetings we are also able to provide continuing education and training opportunities in the areas of volunteer recruitment, management and retention.
