Description:
The Mentor will assist students in Life Skills classes of up to six students for a period of up to six weeks using "Life Skills for Vocational Success" curriculum. The Mentor will provide continuous feedback to the student, instructor and mentor with regard to individual student progress. The Mentor, through the Individual Service Plan, will agree to a long-term relationship with the student (i.e., extending beyond the formal Life Skills Training course) to be a source of encouragement and support.
The ability to interact positively with persons with disabilities; negotiate individual service plans with clients and team members; assist the instructor in demonstrating life skills concepts and tasks, aiding and encouraging students in accomplishing assignments, developing a supportive long-term relationship with the student. Assisting and encouraging students through the "Life Skills Training Program", demonstrating and reinforcing skills, working with students and team members to determine a necessary course of action to implement the Individual Service Plan, participate in team assesments of student potential and progress, and other duties as assigned by the Instructor. The Mentor may also serve as a confidant for the student with regard to personal matters.
