VOLUNTEER CENTRAL FACTS:

Volunteer Central of Greater Tulsa began operation in 1983 as the Tulsa Volunteer Center under the direction of the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa. In the next two decades, its capabilities and its role increased, as did the community’s demand for volunteers.

As the community's comprehensive resource in volunteerism with its own governing Board of Directors, Volunteer Central is an independent, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization expanding its services to meet growing needs.

Volunteer Central's mission is to create a volunteer environment that enriches the lives of all area residents by:
• Promoting volunteerism

• Building capacity for effective volunteering

• Connecting more people with opportunities to serve

• Mobilizing volunteers for targeted community needs

Volunteer Central serves organizations:
• 900+ organizations are listed in the database
• 1500+ volunteer opportunities are posted
• Opportunities focus on children, elderly, animals, teens, homebound, homeless, and more
• Opportunities may be done during day, evening and weekend

Volunteer Central connects thousands of people each year with opportunities to serve and offers programming, training, professional development, certification, and background checks. In addition, Volunteer Central's role in the Tulsa County Emergency Operations Plan is to activate a Volunteer Call Center to manage spontaneous unaffiliated volunteers during a local disaster or emergency.
