Description:
Visit patients and families in their homes, at nursing homes or assisted living facilities in north Okaloosa and Walton counties. Patient and Family Support volunteers provide companionship, sitting with patients to give family caregivers a break, assisting with small tasks, running errands and providing transportation.
Patient and Family Support volunteers can help in a variety of specialized areas:
- 11th Hour volunteers provide emotional support and a caring presence for patients nearing death, in order to ensure that no Covenant Hospice patient dies alone.
- Bereavement volunteers work closely with Covenant Hospice's bereavement specialists to provide family support including mailings, phone calls and assisting with grief workshops or support groups.
- Children's program volunteers work closely with Covenant Hospice's children's specialists to provide companionship and support to children served by Covenant Hospice.
Covenant Hospice volunteers receive free training that prepares them to volunteer in many different ways. Training is offered throughout the year in all branch offices, at times that meet volunteers' schedules.
In addition to specialized training, Covenant Hospice volunteers are invited to participate in educational in-services, socials, receive volunteer newsletters and attend the annual volunteer appreciation banquet.
