Description:
Special Events and Development volunteers plan and work at events that raise funds and increase community awareness. Each year, the Crestview branch office holds several events, including a Boston Butt sale, Tree of Lights: A Celebration of Life, and National Hospice Month activities. New events and projects, unique to north Okaloosa and Walton counties, are being planned regularly. The fundraising efforts provided by volunteers through these events make it possible for Covenant Hospice to care for patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
In 2005, Covenant Hospice spent more than $1.5 million underwriting care for patients and their families who were unable to pay for it themselves. In addition, many of our most important patient and family support programs receive no reimbursement from Medicaid or Medicare. We count on fund-raising events, large and small, to make end-of-life care available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
Covenant Hospice volunteers receive free training that prepares them to volunteer in many different ways. Training is offered throughout the year in all branch offices, at times that meet volunteers' schedules.
In addition to specialized training, Covenant Hospice volunteers are invited to participate in educational in-services, socials, receive volunteer newsletters and attend the annual volunteer appreciation banquet.
