DAY OF CARING:
Excellent Employees of
Superb Companies volunteering at
Vital Nonprofit Agencies
Friday, September 11th was United Way's Day of Caring-We Live United.  This is a time each year when local businesses send teams of employees out into the community to nonprofit organizations to perform various volunteer projects.  There are many purposes to Day of Caring: it highlights the valuable services provided to the community, it 'gets good done' at the targeted organizations, helps kickoff United Way's annual campaign (to benefit over 40 important agencies) and, it allows the participating employees to build morale, improve team building talents, enhance leadership skills, etc.
The 'Superb Companies' were mostly members of the Corporate Volunteer Council of Lincoln, along with a few others wishing to demonstrate their 'social responsibility' values.

SEPTEMBER IS WAS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
(So, how did it go?)
Of the three major activities...
Preparedness Challenge: 20,000 Preparedness Challenge brochures were distributed to schools throughout the Lincoln area and posted on several websites and publicized in the media.  We are in the process of reviewing the returned Challenges and will conduct a drawing for the prizes soon...and then an update.
Business Interruption Planning workshop:  Provided the 29th of September, the halfday workshop was well attended by a variety of businesses, including some nonprofit organizations.  Feedback has been very positive.
Preparedness Presentations:  A few presentations were provided; not as many as last year but bottomline, more residents have been exposed to good, common-sense preparedness activities than prior to September 1st.  (However, the publicity of the availability resulted in four presentations being scheduled/provided for October!)
