Development Intern
What
Description:
A student intern in the Development department of the National MS Society, Colorado Chapter, will have an opportunity to work closely with a dynamic team of fundraising professionals in the areas of planning and implementing donor cultivation and logistical details for the 2010 Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo Walk MS. Through this internship experience, the student intern will be involved in securing event sponsorship and logistics, recruiting event participants, and building/cultivating relationships with past and potential event sponsors and event participants.

Benefits:
This position will provide an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the 9,000+ Coloradans with MS, as well as allow for professional growth, networking, and a behind the scenes look at the ins and outs of event management and non-profit fundraising. This position is flexible to accommodate class schedules, holidays, exams, work, etc.

Most of the student intern’s work will take place in office and professional settings. Benefits of the position include taking part in logistical planning of a 6,000+ person event, sitting in on discussions and meetings over lunch or coffee, and being included in celebrations when goals are met.

Throughout the internship experience, the student will enhance and improve skills including communication, leadership, time management, organization, analysis and problem solving.

Who & How
Volunteers Needed:   1
Special Requirements:   Looking for a sharp, friendly individual that is willing to share his/her opinions during collaborative discussions. Must be comfortable communicating over the phone, in person, and via e-mail, as well as willing to learn the operations of our organization and meet deadlines. The ideal candidate is intrinsically motivated and able to work independently. Some functions fall on nights and weekends. Reliable transportation is preferred. Minimum of 16 hours per week during business hours (8:30am-4:30pm) through the fall term. Hours are flexible upon requirements of the internship. Must attend Denver Walk MS on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Preferred attendance at Task Force meetings: first Tuesdays of each month 5:30-7pm. Preferred attendance at Colorado Springs Walk MS on May 8 and Pueblo Walk MS on May 15. (We reimburse for mileage!)
